A Hollywood icon has passed away. Actress Luise Rainer died at age 104.

According to Deadline, the German-born star succumbed to pneumonia earlier today (Dec. 30). Born in 1910, Rainer was the first actor to win back-to-back Oscars.

Her career took off in the 1930s with 1935's 'Escapade.' In 1936, Rainer appeared alongside William Powell and Myrna Loy in 'The Great Ziegfeld.' The role earned Rainer her first Academy Award, the Best Actress Oscar. The following year, she claimed the same honor for her role in the film adaption of Pearl S. Buck's 'The Great Earth.' Her final film role was in 1997's 'The Gambler.'

Rainer's accomplishment of winning back-to-back Oscars is a feat earned by only a few other actors, including Spencer Tracy, Katharine Hepburn, Jason Robards and Tom Hanks.

We're keeping Rainer's loved ones in our thoughts during this sad time. You can watch her famous, emotion-filled scene from 'The Great Ziegfield' in the video below.
