I can't believe it was all the way back in October of 2012 I first saw the awnings promising a brick oven pizza restaurant in Utica. Now it's open and Andrea and I couldn't wait to try their pie.

There are very few brick oven pizza places I know of in our area. Rome has one, as does Fayetteville.

The Lukin's pie was good. The cheese ample and greasy in the right way. I could have gone for a little more char on the crust. We had two slices nicely charred and the flavor on those was just right.

The menu included pizzas, pininis and subs. Seeing their Mixed Italian Hoagie, I knew I'd be back for that one.

Driving down Varick Street in Utica recently, I noticed a new awning that foretells a new place for pizza in Central New York.

Lukin's Brick Oven Pizza & Lounge is preparing to open at Varick and Hamilton Streets in near former Pasquale's Pizza.

Brick oven style pizza is a relative rarity in the Utica area with only DiCastro's in Rome offering pies done in that style.

Currently the building is still under renovations with only the awning showing any sign of what's to come.
