Grey’s Anatomy fans were heartbroken and shocked to discover that one of their favorite characters would die before the end of the latest episode. Last night a tissue couldn't be found in our household when we watched the death of Patrick Dempsey’s Dr. Derek Shepherd (aka “McDreamy”). You can read a full episode recap thanks to our friends over at ScreenCrush.com.

Some consider it great writing, and of course great acting, but most fans are OUTRAGED. They are expressing their feelings on Grey's Facebook page:

Marcela Arevalo: This was 10 YEARS OF OUR LIVES. Derek deserved better. WE deserved better.

Kate Hermann-Buckmaster: Of all the other tragedies and deaths that have happened on Grey's, the fans have been loyal and understanding. Derek, though? DEREK, MCDREAMY, THE MAN THAT STARTED THIS SHOW?!?!? It feels wrong. It feels wrong on so many levels. It's a betrayal to the show, it's a horrible thing to do to Derek's character, it's a slap in the face to all the loyal fans and it makes no damn sense.

Kristina Blanchard Herrin: How many people cried like they lost a family member? Derek was our family for over ten years and you just kill him off in under 30 minutes. You devote more writing to non characters that are involved in an accident or have an illness. This was just flat out lazy, spiteful writing."

It's been no secret that Patrick Dempsey has been looking to exit the show for "personal reasons". Some rumors report it was due to conflict with the series creator and showrunner Shonda Rhimes, but we can't confirm and deny that. We can confirm fans are heart broken.
