If you haven't tried Mangia Macrina's Wood Fired Pizza from their food truck or their restaurant in New Hartford, you're really missing out on a little slice of heaven.

Let me start by saying that I wasn't paid to write a story about them and I wasn't given free pizza to write a story about them. I've heard about their food truck for quite a while and seen lots of people raving about their pizza on Facebook so I decided to finally try it for myself.

I'm not going to make this about which Central New York pizza is better - there are so many different styles out there and a lot of restaurants make great pizza. Heck, CNY gas station pizza is better than most pizza restaurants in the rest of the country. But the whole experience at Mangia Macrina's Wood Fired Pizza is different.

Seeing that massive wood-fired oven right when you walk in the door is incredible. And that's the reason why every pizza is cooked to perfection in just minutes. You'll also discover a ton of different topping combinations and specialty pizzas on their menu - so many mouth-watering pies to try. The ingredients are all fresh and the flavors are real authentic Italian.

I ordered "The Palermo", with Hot Soppressata, Black Olives and Oregano. They brought it to the table in no time at all. I was instantly hooked - from the perfect crust to the slightly sweet sauce and fresh mozzarella, it really was pizza heaven. And then I got my first taste of the soppressata, adding just the right amount spice and crunch to this already amazing pizza.

Mangia Macrina's is a breath of fresh air in a place where we have pizza on nearly every corner. It really is perfect for lunch when you're in a hurry, but it's even better if you bring a group of friends for dinner. That way you can order a bunch of different combinations and share them. They also feature salads and a great selection of wine and craft beer. There are no slices here, only one size pizza - a 12" pie that's just right for one hungry person.
