I thought I would take sometime to post a couple of pictures from one of the first radio stations I worked at.

Unfortunately I don't have any station memorabilia or memories from my very first radio station broadcasts, but I was 15 years old when I landed a gig at WSCM in Cobleskill, NY years ago. My mother likes to joke with me about the times I used to make up the weather forecast.

Please forgive me if you were driving through the Cobleskill area and I talked about the giant snow storm we were about to get hammered with. It may have been sunny and 80 degrees for all I know, but I thought it would be funny if I made up a fairy tale weather forecast.

The next best or worst thing to hearing me at my first radio station is probably taking a look at my very first radio station jacket. One of my co-workers designed the logo. We were the coolest 20 year old's on the block when we wore these shiny coats; at least in our own minds. Here's a picture of my jacket.

When I was 21, I thought I was the hippest guy on the planet. Then reality set in...Lol. I used to do a lot of "yucking" when I was on the air. "Yucking" is when a radio personality tends to sound a lot like a hyped up announcer for a used car dealership. In other words, instead of sounding human and personable, the DJ sounds robotic, announcerish, and completely unnatural.

I used to host a high energy nighttime request show from 7 to midnight at WBPM in Kingston, NY. I aired a lot of phone calls and played a lot of dedications. I still can't believe my program director liked what she heard. I used to go by "Matt Michaels" on the air. The name was assigned to me. I preferred that one over my boss's original name for me: "Matt McKenzie." I didn't like that name because Spuds McKenzie (the Budweiser dog) was in his prime at that particular time.
