Following her latest scandal, Miley Cyrus has been lying particularly low lately — but at the CNN Heroes All Star Tribute, she absolutely brought the house down with her performance of ‘The Climb.’

Though she hit the red carpet in a sexy, low cut, pale yellow dress (and the ultimate accessory — hottie boyfriend Liam Hemsworth), Cyrus toned everything down for her performance. There were no short shorts, poles or grinding here! Clad in a conservative navy blue gown, Cyrus starts out backed only by piano until her full band kicks in at the opening of the second verse. She performed the entire song without any background singers, a rarity for any performer. The only voice you hear is hers, and it’s powerful.

The backdrop screens show heroes at work, building houses, pushing wheelchairs, reaching out — and the images are so large that they make Cyrus look tiny, like she’s part of something bigger than herself. It’s an extremely moving and effective visual.

Cyrus is no stranger to giving back. The former ‘Hannah Montana’ starlet is a supporter of numerous causes, including ‘So the World May Hear‘ and Kids Kicking Cancer. Her charity work, in addition to this performance, show why — despite a few public missteps – Miley Cyrus is still a hero to many.
