Mother Closes Stewart’s Shop To Breastfeed Baby

Social media in New York's Capital District has been buzzing after a photo appeared on Facebook and Instagram showing a sign at a Stewart's Shop in Troy.  The hand written note said "Will re-open in 15 min. Needed to close due to being scheduled alone & needing to pump. Sorry."  The photo also shows her in her uniform with her baby in her arms.

It was the fiancé of the Katlyn Lemperle, the employee who wrote the sign who took photo of the sign and then posted it.  He wrote "When your fiancé is forced to shut down her shop because her manager didn't schedule a second person until 10am when she's been at work since 3:30am and needs to breast feed."

Comments under his posts were both supported and criticized Lemperle.  Some suggested she take legal action, others said she should be fired.

A statement published by the Times Union from Stewart's Shops said it was an isolated situation and a representative of the company would meet with the employee.  The added that Lemperle was filling in on a shift that she was not regularly scheduled for.
