So, we're having a great time at SUNY-Poly, playing tunes and cheering on participants at the halfway turnaround of the 2017 Alexandra Kogut Run & Walk, when it happens. A dog shows up.

Well, there's a human there, too, on the other other end of the leash. But, really, it's all about the dog. I can't resist and I snap a picture. And maybe pet the dog a couple of times.

I will cross busy city streets just to pet a dog walking its owner on the opposite sidewalk. My family makes fun of me.

I really DO have a problem. I realized just how big of a problem when I was scrolling through my photos and saw a picture I had taken at LAST YEAR'S AK5K. Check it out:

Yup. Same dog. Apparently, I'm fixated on dogs the way dogs are fixated on treats or squirrels. I snapped a picture of the cute dog in 2017, not realizing I had taken a picture of THE SAME DOG in 2016.

Do I suffer from cynomania--the abnormal love of dogs? Or am I merely a canophiliac--someone who has a fondness for dogs? I guess I'm the latter. Or maybe I'm merely a dog-a-holic.

Even though dog-a-holic is not an actual WORD, I think it best describes my issues. And there IS a real company called Dogaholics, which is a doggie daycare business in Chicago.

Hey, at least I don't have canophobia (fear of dogs), even though I was bitten twice when I was a kid.

Is any of this a problem in your household? Do you have a word for the obsessed dog lover in your life?
