NASA’S Messenger Spacecraft Takes First Photos Of Mercury From Orbit
Finally a post my 16 year son will enjoy. He is a space buff and will enjoy these never before seen images of the planet Mercury. I think you will also.
NASA’s Messenger spacecraft has beamed back to Earth the first photos taken of Mercury from orbit, with the very first one showing a desolate gray landscape marked with craters from the southern part of the planet. Messenger, the first spacecraft ever to orbit the first planet from the Sun, took a total of 363 pictures over six hours that are expected to cover previously unseen areas of the planet. Messenger arrived at Mercury on March 17th, more than six-and-a-half years after it was launched. It’s expected to spend at least one year studying the planet from orbit.
