New Hartford’s Village Basement Store is For Sale
An iconic New Hartford business is for sale, giving local entrepreneurs a chance to own a piece of New Hartford history.
When Diane Evans opened the Village Basement nearly 20 years ago, she says she did it because it gave her the flexibility to care for her two young sons. Now that her sons are grown, she says it's time to move on and pass the successful consignment shop onto a new owner.
Diane announced the decision to sell the Village Basement - located on Genesee Street, below Joette's - in a Facebook post:
"The Village Basement is....." FOR SALE".
January 1999 The Village Basement was opened by myself and a dear friend. At that time, my two sons we're little and I had been operating a transcription business from our home for five years. This was a perfect situation because it enabled me to stay home with them and earn money for our family.
Two years after opening I became a sole proprietor, scared to death but encouraged by ALL to make a go of it. Now, 18 years have passed. My two boys are grown and out on their own. Chandler and his wife are living in Houston Texas and Garrett hopefully will be close by in Austin in 2019, serving in the United States Army.
Throughout the past 20 years I have changed things often, trying to always perfect my proceedures to make things run smoother and be more organized and efficient for my shoppers and consignors.
Currently, I have grown at such a fast pace I am no longer capable of keeping up. This is in no way a negative. It is a wonderful miracle!!
It has always been my number one goal to have the shop be a place where people will come to relax, unwind, recoup from every day stressors and leave with a sense of peace, ready to again face the challenges of "life".
In my heart I believe there is needed a fresh new person to truly maximize the potential that The Village Basement Consignment Shop has the capacity to offer to our community."
