The poll was released today, and it shows that 75% of Upstate New Yorkers support a proposal to allow ridesharing services like Uber to operate here in the state.   Most of those who responded to the poll believe those services will improve transportation options and help prevent drunk driving.

Uber is only available in New York City and Western New York at this time.  On Long Island, 77% of those polled support a plan to allow ridesharing services to operate in their area.

Not only do Uber, and their largest competitor Lyft, offer options for those needing a ride, they provide employment opportunities for those wishing to drive for those services.  Drivers use their own cars and handle no cash.  All transactions are done via credit card or Paypal.  Riders must set up an account before using the service.

Uber operates in most major US cities as well as dozens of countries throughout the world.  Drivers are subject to background checks, and their cars are inspected on a regular basis.
