Millions will tune in to see the Times Square Ball Drop on New Year's Eve.  But in hundreds of communities around America it won't be a ball that drops but rather something with a little local flavor.

They do drop a ball in Syracuse, but appropriately, it's an orange ball.

In Ocean City, Maryland, it's a beach ball.

Vincennes, Indiana, drops a giant watermelon.

How about the Lake Erie fishing community of Port Clinton, Ohio?  There you crane your head skyward to watch a giant walleye drop.

Can you guess what a community in Wisconsin might drop?  Plymouth does a monster cheese wedge.

Finally if our Manhattan is the Big Apple, in the "Little Apple" of Manhattan, Kansas, that's exactly what they drop a little round apple.
