With a national debate underway about other states that restrict bathroom access, the New York State Assembly in Albany has voted to outlaw discrimination against transgender people.  It's not the first time the Assembly has passed the measure, which remains hung up in the state Senate.

Last year, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed an executive order including gender identity and expression, making it illgal to discriminate against a transgender preson when it comes to jobs, loans, schools and public accommodations.  However, the order could be reversed by a future governor.   According to recordonline.com, the bill passed by the Assembly would go further by putting the policy into permanent law.
