Well, there's a silver lining to the big government shutdown. Things aren't nearly as bad in the Empire State as they are other in other states of the union.

According to some research conducted by WalletHub, the personal finance website, New York is in the bottom third of States Most Affected by the Government Shutdown. WalletHub "compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across five key metrics," ranging from "each state’s share of federal jobs to federal contract dollars per capita to the share of families receiving food stamps." Here are some of the rankings and details:

New York ranked #35, while Minnesota has been affected the least, and Washington, DC, New Mexico and Maryland were 1-2-3 in suffering the most ill effects from the shutdown.

New York, a primarily Democrat state, bucked the study's trend in which Blue states were GENERALLY more affected than Red states by the shutdown. One reason: New York was among the states whose budgets were among the ones with the Lowest Federal Contract Dollars Per Capita.
