What seemed to us as a harmless prank has turned deadly for the nurse who was fooled.  CNN is reporting that a nurse at King Edward VII hospital is dead following an apparent suicide.

Aparently the nurse who was found dead was the one who first received the call and passed it through and not the second voice that can be heard divulging some medical information about the Duchess such as her dehytrated condition and the fact she hadn't 'wretched' lately.  From CNN:

The nurse found dead was the one who first received the prank call and transferred it to the duchess's ward. Her family has been contacted, the hospital said.

The radio show apologized for the call Wednesday, saying it "was done with light-hearted intentions."

Statement from King Edward VII Hospital:

It is with very deep sadness that we confirm the tragic death of a member of our nursing staff, Jacintha Saldanha. We can confirm that Jacintha was recently the victim of a hoax call to the hospital. The hospital had been supporting her throughout this difficult time
