Mark your calendars for a day (or more, if you choose), of fun in Syracuse for the annual New York State Chinese Lantern Festival.

If you're thinking of a Chinese lantern, you're probably picturing a generic round paper-object with a light in it... pretty basic. That is NOT what this festival is all about. These are some fantastic works of art that are Chinese lanterns. From gigantic dragons to flowers, to some that blink different colored lights. Just check out the video at the top of this page with some of the wonderful creations (now, the video is from last year, so don't mind the dates at the end of it).

The New York State Chinese Lantern Festival is back for 2018. The whole event runs for 33 days, so you'll have plenty of time to get to the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse to see and experience it.

It's Friday, May 25th through Sunday, July 1st every day except Mondays. You can see the whole list of dates and times the festival is open, by visiting the: New York State Chinese Lantern Festival Facebook Event Page.

There will also be Chinese paintings, sketches, cartoon paintings, and other artistic works, as well as performances like plate spinning, acrobatic contortion, and "face changing." What festival would be complete without food?! Of course there will be food trucks on site with a variety of goodies.
