The New York State Police are warning residents about a new scam targeting Grandma, all because she loves you so much.

Police say scammers are now targeting grandparents. The scam goes like this: the scammer contacts your grandparents, and pretends to be a grandchild in some kind of trouble that requires money to get out of (of course.) The scammers then convince Grandma to wire money somewhere, while telling her not to contact anyone else because it would be "embarrassing."

According to reporting by CNYCentral.com, a Saratoga couple was scammed out of over $11,000 in a similar scam.

NYS Troopers say that a good way to prevent being scammed is to ask the caller questions only the real person would be able to answer - and always contact the authorities if you get one of these calls.
