There's good news within some bad news for schools in and around the Mohawk Valley. Looking on the bright side, among the 50 school districts with the worst ratings in New York state, just six Central New York school districts made the list.

The bad news is that one CNY school district placed in the top 10 (or bottom 10, depending on your point of view) on this dishonor roll.

A new evaluation of school districts available on niche.com, which helps consumers find schools that best match their needs, has ratings for schools across New York. The methodology for their study took into account the following factors: testing, college readiness, math and English proficiency, quality of teachers, and more.

The 50 worst districts, according to niche.com, include these schools:

  • #40. Frankfort-Schuyler Central
  • #34. Norwich City
  • #30. Harrisville Central
  • #26. Owen D. Young Central
  • #19. Syracuse City
  • #8. Canastota Central

Niche.com used the same criteria for its study of New York's BEST schools, and included best places to teach, most diverse, and safest.
