Oswego native Michael Tweedie, who goes by Mike, is looking for his birth parents and he's turned to Facebook for help finding them.

In true social media fashion, Mike's post on his Facebook page 'Mike Tweedie's Birth Family Search' has gone viral. In less than 12 hours, the post has been seen by over 2.2 million people.

Mike says the idea came to him after he started looking into his past. "It was on my mind, so the other night I started going through some old paperwork and a registry website I'm on to see if I had any hits since I just moved to Georgia. On a whim I decide to start a Facebook page to widen the search."

A friend of Mike's did something similar and had a happy ending. "I had a friend who did the exact same thing and she found her family. So I though what do I have to lose," he says.

Mike was born on March 23rd, 1981 in a Syracuse hospital. "I'm not sure where. All my paperwork says is Syracuse New York. Obviously my birth mother lived within commuting distance," he says.

Although information is few and far between, Tweedie does know he was born via C-section. "That might narrow it down to a couple of hospitals who did those kind of procedures in 1981 on a woman at such a young age."

The paperwork Tweedie has says his mother was 14 when she gave birth and his father was 17. "I'd love to go to go to the hospitals and ask but it's not that easy. Hospitals aren't going to give about that kind of information to anybody. You have to have proof, which I don't have."

A few months after being born and living in foster care, Mike was adopted to a loving family in Oswego. He graduated in 1999 from a high school in Oswego before joint the U.S. Navy where he served for almost 11 years. After the Navy, Mike spent most of the past few years overseas working for the Army in Afghanistan as a contractor. He's currently living in Covington, Georgia and works for Delta Airlines.
