The sudden firing of Matt Lauer, the longtime host of The Today Show on NBC left viewers surprised and network executives scratching their heads to come up with a plan to replace the popular anchor.

NBC endured this process as they went through Johnny Carson, David Letterman, and Jay Leno in a succession of late night talk show hosts. Then, it was Regis Philbin and Michael Strahan on LIVE. NBC has a new urgent mission: Find the next Matt Lauer.

This will not be an easy task for the network as they ponder their potential roster moves on The Today Show, especially given the climate in show business in this day and age.

It took a little bit of imagination, but I tried to imagine what the executives at NBC are going through as they contemplate their moves. I think the final option I came up with in the above video is not as far-fetched as it may seem.

Maybe my short video will ring true at NBC and trigger some deeper thought among the executives charged with deciding on a replacement for Lauer. And, maybe my thoughts will trigger some other notions from TV fans playing along at home.

How long will the vetting process take as NBC checks the backgrounds and reputations of potential anchors and measures those factors alongside each candidate's talent and potential chemistry with the rest of the show's cast? Who will they chose? Any ideas?
