President Bush Moved to Intensive Care Unit
Former President George H.W. Bush has been moved to the intensive care unit at Methodist Hospital in Houston, due to a fever that is not responding to treatment.
The president has been in the hospital for a month now and is currently in “guarded condition.” He is interacting with family and hospital staff, and doctors are cautiously optimistic about his condition, according to Bush’s spokesman, Jim McGrath.
On November 23, Bush returned to the hospital due to a lingering cough following bronchitis, and he has remained there since. The fever that kept him there over Christmas went up a few days ago before falling back down on Wednesday. His stay in the hospital, while lengthy, is precautionary; his condition is not considered life-threatening.
Bush, 88, is the oldest living ex-president. He is also a former vice president and director of the CIA.
