A 4-year-old boy was treated at Rome Memorial Hospital after being struck in the face.  Police have accused 24-year-old John G. Copen of Rome with striking the young boy and causing the injuries.

Copen is now being held in jail until his arraignment in Rome City Court.  Detectives have told the Rome Sentinel that the man has been charged with second-degree assault, and more charges are pending as their investigation continues.

The child has been released from the hospital and has been offered counseling through the Child Advocacy Center.
