One of the bravest group of soldiers to ever defend our nation are the Tuskegee Airmen. They flew and fought in many dangerous battles, all with the thought of friends, family, and fellow Americans in their hearts. Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi and his colleagues honored a few of the surviving members of the honorable group. One of those men is Rome native Herbert Thorpe.

Brindisi first posted the photo with Mr. Thorpe (Left of Assemblyman Brindisi) on his Facebook page. He called Herbert "an outstanding citizen and a true patriot." For those unfamiliar with the history of these brave Americans, there is a Tuskegee Airmen Inc. website you can visit.

“Tuskegee Airmen” refers to all who were involved in the so-called “Tuskegee Experience,” the Army Air Corps program to train African Americans to fly and maintain combat aircraft. The Tuskegee Airmen included pilots, navigators, bombardiers, maintenance and support staff, instructors, and all the personnel who kept the planes in the air.

Congratulations and God Bless to all those brave men and women who serve our nation, and thank you to Assemblyman Brindisi for reminding them that they are truly appreciated.
