Being born with amazing talent does have its downfalls. People who are gifted with astounding voices without the training of a voice coach or teacher, are more likely to strain their vocal cords, and even do some serious damage to them. Now that's not all cases, but it is the case with Sam Smith.

The singer had to cancel tour dates in Australia and Japan, and headed back to the United States to see a specialist, and find out what they could do for the vocal cord hemorrhage. According to ABC News,

a doctor advised he receive suspension microlaryngoscopy surgery. He is expected to make a full recovery and be back in six to eight weeks.

Six to eight weeks isn't too bad, except for all the performances and events Sam Smith will miss in the meantime - including the Billboard Music Awards.

Sam Smith was obviously upset about the diagnosis and treatment, but he does try to stay positive, and look at the good things that will come with missing all this time. He took to Instagram to tell his fans exactly how he felt saying,

"By doing this in 8 weeks time I'm gonna be able to sing like never before so it's worth it. I am so sorry to all. Dreading the next month thou, I can't speak for THREE WEEKS after the op."

I can't even imagine him singing better than he already does, but we'll have to wait and see what happens in the coming weeks. Get well soon Sam Smith!
