Louisiana School Forcing Students Suspected of Being Pregnant to Take Tests — Is It Fair? [POLL]

If the administration at the Delhi Charter School in Delhi, Louisiana suspects a student of being pregnant, they are forcing the girls to take pregnancy tests.

The public school’s policy dictates that if a student refuses to take the test at a doctor of the school’s choice or is found to be pregnant, she will be kicked out and be required to participate in home schooling if she wants to finish her education with the facility.

Approximately 70 percent of the pregnant girls at the school leave due to this practice.

The school, which educates 600 students, is coming under fire for its policy, with the ACLU pointing out that the discriminatory practice violates both federal law and the Constitution.

Sex discrimination is prohibited in federally funded education programs; therefore, schools cannot exclude any student from an education program or activity, “including any class or extracurricular activity, on the basis of such student’s pregnancy, childbirth, false pregnancy, termination of pregnancy or recovery therefrom.” Additionally, the due process of procreation is protected by the Constitution.
