Secret Santa Pays Off Local K-Mart Layaway Bills
December 13, 2011 2:13 PM With Christmas right around the corner, everyone is scrambling to get their gifts before they’re sold out- scrimping every dollar to afford that particular something… but with all the hustle and bustle, have we forgotten that true Spirit of Giving? Read this story about an anonymous woman that decided to pay off a strangers’ layaway bill. The catch? The items had to include childrens’ toys.
It started in a Michigan K-Mart store where a lady in her 30′s asked the layaway attendant, “Can I, you know, pay off some people’s layaway?” The employee didn’t know what she meant until she said “I just want to help people.” She then paid $500 toward random layaway slips that included children’s toys.
But the story doesn’t end there…
The very next day, a copy-cat Secret Santa visited their local K-Mart and paid $2000 toward 14 different layaway slips! He said he was inspired by the story from the day before.
Stories like this are popping up all over the country as this story spreads. With the less fortunate always among us, how can we lend a helping hand? You may not have $2000 to give, but could you donate your time, a winter coat, or a meal to a Shelter this year? A little bit could mean a lot to someone else.
