Selena Gomez premiered her new single 'Come & Get It' at the MTV Movie Awards wearing a bindi on her forehead -- and sporting the religious symbol has factions of the Hindu community up in arms.

What, no one saw this coming?

The dance number was an obviously Bollywood-inspired joint featuring Gomez in a red sari-esque costume and a bindi, with her backup dancers in matching garb. And yet her team still thought this was a great idea.

Rajan Zedd of the Universal Society of Hinduism told WENN (via the Hollywood Gossip):

The bindi on the forehead is an ancient tradition in Hinduism and has religious significance ... It is not meant to be thrown around loosely for seductive effects or as a fashion accessory aiming at mercantile greed.

Selena should apologize and then she should get acquainted with the basics of world religions.

Of course, this is not the first time a celeb has worn a bindi -- Gwen Stefani, Madonna, Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus have all worn the religious symbol in public.

They caught a little flack for it, but then again, they weren't wearing bindis while writhing around to a lackluster song about wanting a man to come and "get you" when he's ready for your love, either.
