Should New York State Have More Appealing Plates?

I guess just having moved here from Arizona, and after making the long drive across the beautiful USA, I'm probably more aware of the design of the New York State license plates than those who have lived here all along.   I was a little surprised to see what the current tags look like as compared to many other states.

Should the colors and design even matter to us?  We are the Empire State, so let's let those in other parts of the country know it.  It's all about promoting our great state when we drive to other parts of the country.  Where is the image of Niagara Falls, the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, or the Adirondack Mountains?

Arizona, Alabama, and dozens of more isolated, less populated states have much more attractive plates than we do.
