Winter may be a week away but someone didn't tell Mother Nature. Snow, freezing rain and bitterly cold temperatures are on the way in central New York. The National Weather Service has issued a Lake Effect Snow Watch from Wednesday night through Friday morning.

Artic air will move into the area Thursday, December 15th, bringing temperatures in the teens with wind chills below zero. Snow could begin tonight and be heavy at times on Thursday. We'll see a break Friday, but more snow and freezing rain is in store just in time for the weekend.

Wednesday night: Chance of snow showers, mainly after 7pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 12. Wind chills as low as -5.

Thursday: Snow that could be heavy at times. High near 16 with wind chill as low as -5. Up to 3 inches possible

Thursday night: Snow showers likely before 1am, then scattered flurries after 1am. Low around -4 with wind chills as low as -16. Another 2 inches of snow possible

Friday: Scattered flurried with a high of 13

Saturday: Snow changing to freezing rain late Saturday night.

The average temperatures for this time of year in central New York is 30 degrees. If the latest forecast is a sign of things to come this winter, which doesn't officially start until December 16th, it may be time to think about moving south.
