Effective on June 1st, 2016 the speed limit for Route 233 in Westmoreland will be reduced from 55 mph to 45. The change will effect the stretch between Foote Road and Route 412 College Street.

According to the NYSDOT Public Information Officer, Jim Piccola, "The speed limit change is a result of a traffic study that was performed along the corridor to enhance safety. Variable message signs will be used to advise motorists of the speed limit changes." Some media outlets had reported earlier that the change would take place today (Tuesday the 24th), but that is not the case. Again, this change will take place on Wednesday, June 1st, 2016. From now until then there will be work done to change the signage on that road.
