Strange Explosion in the Sky Over Sacramento [VIDEO]

An amateur astronomer captured something on video at the end of December, 2012 that he can't explain.  An explosion of a object in the sky.

The video is shot by placing an iPhone camera up to the eyepiece of a telescope.  First shown is an object orbiting a heavenly body.  Next the large body is shown to explode.

Scientists who have reviewed the video can't offer any explanation for what is shown.
