The unofficial kick-off of summer is happening this weekend! Summer is filled with outdoor activities, but sometimes the weather just doesn't want to cooperate. So what do you do on those rainy days? Well, here are a few ideas you could try!

Homemade Lava Lamps

Pretty cheap to do. You'll need a plastic water bottle, Alka-Seltzer tablets, food coloring, and vegetable oil. According to Inner Child Fun,

fill a small plastic bottle with water and vegetable oil leaving a few inches of space at the top of the bottle. Add a few drops of food coloring, then slowly add a few effervescent antacid tablets (aka Alka Seltzer) -

and watch your homemade lava “lamp” come to life!! Be sure to keep the bottle open.

Pretty simple, cheap, and will keep the kids busy for the afternoon!

Tie-Dye

This was actually the first time I've ever tie-dyed anything, and I was really happy with the results. You can buy a tie-dye kit at pretty much any superstore (Walmart, Kmart, whatever). And white T-shirts are cheap. I attempted to make this 'spiral' pattern, which was in the directions (plus they're a ton of Youtube videos for other pattern ideas).

Not too bad for my first tie-dye job. It can get a little messy, but it's fun. That's definitely a good way to use up a rainy day.

Movie Marathon

Or binge-watch some of your favorite shows. The best part? It doesn't cost anything. Maybe a few bucks if you want to pick up some snacks. It's a rainy day - you can't go outside anyways. Who cares if you sit in front of the TV for a few hours? It's a good way to just relax and wait for that next sunny day to get back outside!
