Sunset Ave Closes Forever at the Arterial in Utica
The complexion of the North-South Arterial (New York State Touring Routes 5-8-12) was forever changed with the permanent closing of Sunset Avenue in West Utica. Here’s the lowdown on the changes.
The stoplight at Sunset Ave has been removed. No turns on to Sunset Ave and there is no pedestrian access.
The traffic light has been removed however you should watch for southbound turning traffic from Sunset Ave.
Sunset Ave from the Arterial to Court Street remains open. All traffic from Sunset must turn right at the arterial.
Sunset Ave from the Northbound Arterial to Lincoln Ave is permanently closed. Traffic is being detoured to Warren Ave for Arterial access.
A pedestrian bridge will be constructed over the Arterial to connect the now-split portions of Sunset Ave.
A long-closed store in West Utica is getting a facelift and a new tenant. A Family Dollar is set to open at the corner of Court and Schuyler streets. The location, near the FX Matt Brewery was built as a Rite Aid Pharmacy.
