‘Supernatural’ Spinoff ‘Tribes’ Casts ‘Vampire Diaries’ and ‘Skins’ Alum in Leading Roles

We’re still on the fence as to whether The CW’s aging ‘Supernatural‘ really warrants a spinoff this late in the game, but, either way, ‘Supernatural: Tribes‘ has begun assembling. ‘Skins’ alum Lucien Laviscount will take a leading role in the Chicago-set spinoff alongside ‘The Vampire Diaries‘ alum Nathaniel Buzolic.

Via Warner Bros. press, Laviscount (above left) will play the leading role of Ennis Roth, a police academy trainee who becomes a monster hunter after his fiancée is killed in the crossfire of the monster war dominating Chicago. The tragedy leads him to discover the truth about what lurks in the shadows (presumably from Sam and Dean) and become a monster hunter himself. Buzolic (above right) will play David Hayden, a shapeshifter from one of Chicago’s ruling monster families who gave up the monster life years ago and has been living as a human.

Meanwhile, here are the other ‘Supernatural: Tribes’ roles awaiting cast announcements:

MARGO HAYDEN | David’s “professional, strong-willed, determined, ambitious” shape-shifter sister. She’s an “ex-punk rocker gone corporate” who sets out to be the new head of the family in the wake of a tragedy. Margo is in her early 20s.

VIOLET DURANT | A werewolf and part of the wealthy, powerful Durant family. In a twist right out of West Side Story, the early-twentysomething is hot for family rival David (see above), but their love is forbidden.

JULIAN DURANT | Violet’s “savagely handsome, strong, arrogant” twentysomething brother and Ennis’ arch nemesis.

FREDDIE COSTA | A world-weary cop in his 30s, Freddie has a soft spot in his heart for Ennis (he knew his dad back in the day). Fun fact: Freddie’s got a secret.

‘Supernatural’ writer Andrew Dabb will pen the script, executive producing alongside Eric Kripke, Robert Singer, showrunner Jeremy Carver and McG. Singer will also direct the pilot, which will air as a backdoor pilot in the 20th installment of the current ‘Supernatural’ season.

‘Supernatural’ has already been confirmed to return for a 10th season, but should ‘Tribes’ join it on the CW lineup next year? Tell us what you think of the first castings, and if ‘Supernatural: Tribes’ can carry the torch Sam and Dean eventually leave behind!
