A patient at the hospital notified staff of the teenager, and the police were called. According to The South Florida Sun-Sentinel,

Staff at the medical center's OB/GYN office was alerted by a patient that a young male who "appeared to be a child" was dressed as a doctor and was inside an exam room. The patient said he had a lab coat with the St. Mary's logo and "anesthesiology" stitched on the front, according to the incident report.

Two security guards mentioned to police that they saw the boy around the hospital. One said he had seen the teen around for about a month. The other security guard showed police security footage of the teen in the hospital.

An OB/GYN at the hospital said he hadn't seen the teenager before. Later he said that he did find a note from the boy that asked if he could "shadow" the doctor.

The teen's mother said her son is ill and had not been taking his medicine.

While talking with police, the teenager said he had been a doctor for years.
