Canadian authorities say they've foiled a major terror plot targeting Amtrak service between Toronto and New York City with the help of the FBI and Department of Homeland Security.

An official with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said two people were arrested for allegedly conspiring in an al-Qaeda-supported attack that would have killed or injured innocent people if it was carried out.

The official emphasized that though the suspects had the capacity and intent to carry out the attack, there was no imminent threat against the public.

The targeted line runs through Utica.

One suspect was arrested in Toronto, while the other was arrested in Montreal.
