This may be the first time America got a good look at Sally Field. In 1965 she played a character on television taken from a 1957 novel, Gidget. In the sitcom, Gidget was an upbeat, perky girl who often went on many zany escapades.
Sally Field did a fantastic job playing the role of 15-year-old Frances Elizabeth Lawrence (better known to her family and friends as Gidget). Don Porter was her ever-loving father, Russ, who gave her guidance and advice sending her on the correct moral path.

Here we see Gidget working on a car.

The show only ran from 1965 through 1966.
