The 2013 Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade promises to be a fun way to kick off the holidays.   Balloons, performers, marching bands, floats, clowns, and let's not forget that jolly old elf Santa.   It's all wrapped up into a Thanksgiving tradition for so many Americans, with this the 87th year of the parade.  What can you expect to see this year during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade?

Four new balloons will be part of this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, including the magical dragon "Toothless," a new Snoopy and Woodstock balloon, plus to celebrate the 75th anniversary of "The Wizard of Oz"  a balloon featuring  Dorothy and other characters from the movie.

Did you know it takes a minimum of 80 people to handle each balloon?  5000 volunteers undergo plenty of training to make sure the parade balloons fly just the way they are supposed to.  The parade has 8000 participants and about 35 million Americans will be tuning in at home to see all the fun.

Performers this year include The Goo Goo Dolls, Carrie Underwood, Florida Georgia Line and Gavin DeGraw.  This is the 87th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade and all the fun begins at 9am on NBC Thanksgiving morning.

Is the parade part of your Thanksgiving festivities?  I'll be watching for sure and if the weather is cold, glad to be inside with a great view of the parade!
