The memory of Kane Buss will grow for years as trees were planted in his honor. Friends and family came together to remember the Oneida teen killed in a drunk driving accident last January.

A tree at Oneida High School sits inside a sneaker, an obsession of Buss'. "He had 58 different sneakers. It was his addiction," Buss mother Claudette said.

Another tree was placed at Destiny USA, where Buss and his girlfriend Amanda Pawlikowski were leaving, after having a date night together. Beside the tree is a cross displaying #31, Buss' football jersey number.

Leonard Glowacki of Syracuse is accused of running into Buss' vehicle on Hiawatha Boulevard January 18th. He’s facing several charges including aggravated vehicular homicide, manslaughter and driving while intoxicated. Glowacki is in the Onondaga County jail, awaiting trial.

Buss had plans to enroll in the police academy after graduating in May. To honor his memory, the Oneida City Police Department made Buss an honorary officer.

Kane’s last act of heroism was shielding Pawlikowski in the crash, which saved her life. Despite her loss, Amanda knew protecting people was part of who Kane was.

The Kane Buss Football Scholarship has also been set up. You can contribute at GoFundMe.com or by mailing a check to the Oneida High School Boosters Club.
