‘The Voice’ Recap: Coaches Fill Their Teams, Prepare for Battle Rounds

'The Voice'

Tonight’s episode of ‘The Voice’ (April 9) brought the final round of blind auditions, and coaches Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Shakira and Usher filled the empty spots on their respective teams.

It’s always interesting to watch how the judges pick and choose when they only have one slot left to fill, and tonight’s episode was no exception.

Here’s how the teams are looking as the battle rounds approach:

Jacqui Sandell: This tattooed Jersey girl fronts the band My Arcadia, whom you may have seen on Warped Tour. She sang Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Dreams’ during her blind audition on ‘The Voice’ tonight and prompted both Usher and Shelton to turn their chairs. “Your voice is so sneaky to me,” said Shelton. “It seems like you know what you’re capable of.” He went on to compliment her “quick vibrato” and “sexy sound.” “She really seduced me with her tone,” agreed Usher. Ultimately, Sandell chose Team Blake.

Amber Carrington: Her passionate, country-infused rendition of Carrie Underwood’s ‘Good Girl’ made Shelton regret that he didn’t have any spots on his team left to fill. Levine turned his chair for her, but Shelton may be willing to steal her should the opportunity arise. Read more about her audition here.

Luke Edgemon: This driven North Carolina native has provided backup vocals for such stars as Mary J. Blige and Queen Latifah, but now he wants to make it on his own. His moving, soulful performance of Bonnie Raitt’s ‘I Can’t Make You Love Me’ caught the attention of Shakira and Usher, and he wound up on Team Shak. Read more about his blind audition here.

Jessica Childress: After giving up her former career in PR in order to pursue music, she charmed her way into the coaches’ hearts with her voice and positive spirit by singing Bruno Mars’ ‘Marry You.’ “I wanna marry her!” exclaimed Levine, clearly blown away by her performance. But since Usher was the only coach with an empty spot to fill, Childress joined his team by default.

Sadly, no one turned around for 49-year-old Mark Lennon, a member of the band Venice (fun fact: host Carson Daly is a huge fan!). Dustin Hatzenbuhler was encouraged to come back, but his rendition of Michael Buble’s ‘Haven’t Met You Yet’ lacked swag and sounded more like a show tune than anything else.

The battle rounds begin next Monday (April 15), so be sure to tune in! In the meantime, check out some videos from tonight’s episode below.
