Tonight’s installment of ‘The Voice’ (Nov. 8) – also known as the live elimination round – determined who has moved on to the top 12 and who was sent home. America voted for two winners from each team, and the coaches were left with the difficult task to pick their third contestant.

Maroon 5, fronted by coach Adam Levine, were featured in this special episode, rocking the stage with their new hit single, ‘Daylight.’ Last season’s winner of the show, Jermaine Paul, also debuted his brand-new song, ‘I Believe In This Life.’

The singers representing Team Adam and Team Blake got the crowd pumped-up and ready with a performance of Kelly Clarkson’s 'What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger).’ Later in the episode, the contestants from Team Cee Lo and Team Christina strutted their stuff with a powerful version of Train’s ‘Drive By.’

And now, onto the results from the live elimination round:

TEAM ADAM:

Amanda Brown: This talented background singer representing Team Adam received the most votes from America out of the team's five remaining contestants. She blew away not only the judges, but viewers at home with her stunning delivery of Aerosmith’s ‘Dream On.’ Brown has star quality and deserves to keep on shining.

Bryan Keith: His passionate rendition of the Goo Goo Dolls’ ‘Iris’ during the live playoffs was quite an obvious hit, securing him a spot in the top 12. He has such an amazing stage presence, but there’s also an emotional rawness to his voice that no doubt caught America’s attention.

Melanie Martinez: Her coach was 100% behind her from the start, and it was likely this unwavering faith in her one-of-a-kind voice and style that inspired him to keep her in the running. “You are so incredibly unique and different and I love that about you,” Levine said. “Moving forward, I am going to choose Melanie.”

Sadly, this meant that Loren Allred and Joselyn Rivera were sent home. "Love you guys …this is not fun. No one is better than the other,” Levine remarked.

TEAM BLAKE:

Terry McDermott: This Scottish singer came away with the most fan votes for Team Blake. His near-perfect execution of Journey’s ‘Don’t Stop Believin'’ in this week's live playoffs impressed judges and fans alike, earning him a spot in the top 12.

Cassadee Pope: Pope’s experience and vocal precision kept her in the running. It also doesn’t hurt that as a former frontwoman for the band Hey Monday, she probably already had quite a few supporters back home. “You’re clearly one of the fan favorites,” Shelton commented, going on to say that there’s no doubt she can make it as a solo artist, whether she wins ‘The Voice’ or not.

Michaela Paige: The 16-year-old singer has demonstrated promise, passion and confidence on the show so far, and she charmed the audience and judges with her performance of ‘Everybody Talks’ by Neon Trees. According to Shelton, she’s worth keeping around. “I gotta go with my heart and emotion … I gotta pick Michaela,” he said.

While Shelton proclaimed, “There’s nothing more exciting than when America makes their decision,” he also stated that there’s nothing quite as sad as sending his contestants home. The country singer said goodbye to Liz Davis and Julio Cesar Castillo tonight.

TEAM CHRISTINA:

Dez Duron: It’s no surprise that this charming, talented teen heartthrob was the first winner to be announced for Team Christina. After his dazzling delivery of Hunter Hayes’ ‘Wanted’ during the live playoffs, it was evident not only from the judges’ remarks, but from the enthusiastic crowd response, that he was a fan favorite.

Sylvia Yacoub: This multi-talented artist has proven that she’s not afraid to take risks. She sang an extremely heartfelt version of Katy Perry’s ‘The One That Got Away’ last night, all the while accompanying herself on the piano. Yacoub now gets yet another chance to show us what she's got as she moves on as part of the top 12.

Adriana Louise: Aguilera selected the third winner for her team based on her belief that this particular contestant didn’t have a chance to properly showcase what she’s made of. It was a nail-biting and highly emotional decision for Aguilera, but she ultimately went with Louise (which might come as a shock to anyone expecting her to choose De’Borah based on that same exact reasoning).

As Aguilera bid farewell to De’Borah and Devyn DeLoera, she was sure to drive home the following words of encouragement derived from her own personal experience: “I just want to tell you, please never, ever let anyone or anyone’s opinion ever define who you are. You guys are so special and so talented …Take this opportunity from here, look beyond the show, and this is just the beginning for all of you.”

TEAM CEE LO:

Trevin Hunte: Hunte has been a favorite all season long, so it only makes sense that he was the highest-ranked contestant from Team Cee Lo. The shy yet incredibly devoted singer received a standing ovation during his segment of the recent live playoffs – and he obviously won over the hearts of at-home viewers as well.

Nicholas David: His looks don't quite match up with his voice, which makes him a bit of an ever-present question mark, but he must be doing something right (after all, Levine did comment that he "kinda wanted to make a baby" after his cover of Barry White’s ‘You’re the First, the Last, My Everything’ in the playoffs). David's soulful vocals and interesting persona have propelled him into the group of last men and women standing.

Cody Belew: Cee Lo was faced with an extremely tough decision; the choice was impossible for him to make based purely on talent, because they all have so much to offer. In the end, he selected the contestant he believes has made the most progress since the beginning of the show. “I’m going to pick on the grounds of the most improved,” Cee Lo said. “I’ve gotta go with Cody.”

Poor MacKenzie Bourg and Diego Val, though. Bourg was in tears once he realized that he lost, and Val looked like he wasn’t far behind. However, Cee Lo hugged them both before they departed, leaving them with words of hope and wisdom. “As always, this experience is not only important but iconic … no one will leave empty-handed,” he reminded them. “I will always be with you in spirit and support.”

Well, that's all for now, folks. Be sure to tune in to 'The Voice' next Monday to watch the top 12 singers perform!
