Bears are extremely smart animals, as evidence by a bear from Old Forge - who figured out how to get into a minivan - and all of it was caught on camera.

Maybe it's just me, but I'd like to think that if I ever encountered a bear I'd be safe in my car. Note to self: only if I lock the doors.

Footage released by the "I Love Old Forge" Facebook page - taken by a Ring doorbell camera - shows a bear opening the sliding door of a minivan, then climbing in the front seat to check for snacks. Oh, and then her 4 cubs show up - so I guess mama bear really DOES need a minivan. Watching the video, I half expected the bears to climb in for a ride to Keyes Pancake House for a little breakfast.

What's the takeaway message here?

  1. Lock your car doors - especially if you have food in the car.
  2. If you're not gonna lock your car, make sure you've got a camera going so we can at least watch.

Have you ever had a close bear encounter?
