The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance is reminding all taxpayers that they have three extra days to file their federal and state income tax returns this year.

The deadline to file and pay any tax due is April 18th, rather than the traditional April 15th date.  This year, April 15th falls on a Saturday and Emancipation Day --a legal holiday in Washington, D.C. -- will be observed on that Monday.

That pushes the nation's filing deadline to April 18th.

“The extended deadline should be welcome news for those taxpayers who haven’t yet completed this important obligation,” said Acting Commissioner Nonie Manion. “However, don’t wait until the last minute and file in a rush.

Taxpayers with household incomes of $64,000 or less can use Free File software available on the Tax Department's website.
