Top 5 Reasons to Visit the Great New York State Fair [Video and Photos]

I had a chance to visit the Great NY State fair over the weekend and I had a blast! Here's 5 reasons I think you should go.

The weather was picture perfect and fair fever was in the air on Saturday. A friend and I decided to head to Syracuse to check out one of Central New York's most prestigious annual events: The Great New York State Fair.

After we parked, we hopped on a short bus ride and were shuttled to the main gate. We stood in a short line, paid for our admission tickets, and walked on in. Here are some of the attractions and foods I enjoyed while I was there.

Taste NY

The first thing we did was hit the Taste NY booths. If you like free food and beverages, I think you'll be a fan of Taste NY. 70 vendors from all over the Empire State offer up some of the best food samples ever. I didn't try them all, but I tasted at least 10. One of my favorites was the beef jerky booth. My friend enjoyed sampling the various wine samples . Fried Food

I'm not a big fan of sweets. I generally prefer salty and spicy over sticky and sweet; however I have two weaknesses when it comes to foods with lots of sugar: ice cream and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. When I saw this sign, I had to try them! To see a complete listing of fair food Click Here.

Animals

I grew up on a farm so I love animals. While we were at the fair, we got to see a sheep shearing, llamas playing, rabbits frolicking, and yes....cows kissing!

Live Music

I watched rock band Buckcherry rock out at night, and Dan and Shay play during the day. Both shows were awesome! Here's me dancing to Dan and Shay's cover of Maroon 5's "Moves Like Jagger." For some reason it looks like I have a black eye. I think it's just the lighting not the result of accidentally bumping into the guy behind me lol.

Rides

I've always been a fan of rides; especially the scary ones. I had to experience the Mega Drop! (Click Here for the ride list.)

Oh, I almost forgot, you don't have to worry about missing out on your favorite Utica food in Syracuse;  I enjoyed my Utica greens and Chicken riggies at "It's a Utica Thing!"
