Opening season for trout fishing opens up on April 1st 2016. Where in Central New York can you find the most trout? Here's the top spots to check out. 

New York Upstate released a database of where the DEC stocked trout all across the state. Here's the top spots in Central New York, and how much fished they released:

1) Fourth Lake

In Herkimer County, look to cast a line in the town of Webb at Fourth Lake. The DEC has stocked this area with over 9,200 rainbow trout.

 

2) West Canada Creek

In Herkimer County, consider making a trip to the town of Ohio and fish at the West Canada Creek. This area has been stocked with over 8,370 brook trout.

 

3) Mohawk River

In Oneida County, go fishing in Rome at the Mohawk River. The DEC has stocked this area with over 6,720 brown trout.

 

4) Fish Creek East Branch

In Oneida County, take a trip to the East Branch of Fish Creek located in Annsville. This area has been stocked with 5,780 brown trout.

 

5) Black River

In Oneida County, cast a line in the Boonville-Forestport region on Black River. This area has been stocked with 5,690 brown trout.

 

6) Ninemile Creek

In Oneida County, cast a line in the Marcy and Trenton area. The DEC has stocked this region with over 5,170 brown trout.
