Last week, I let you know that getting your tax refund this season could be tricky with the current state of the government being shut down. Which at the time, was true, according to multiple sources.

Now, because of all the talk, it has been confirmed that you WILL in fact receive your refund!

Although the shutdown has taken place for about three weeks now with no re-joining date in sight, the IRS released a statement confirming that it will process tax returns beginning January 28, 2019 and provide refunds to taxpayers as scheduled. IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig wants everyone to know that they will be calling in many workers, despite the shutdown, to take care of getting you your refund.

"We are committed to ensuring that taxpayers receive their refunds notwithstanding the government shutdown. I appreciate the hard work of the employees and their commitment to the taxpayers during this period,”

They even issued a statement on Twitter last night.

According to the press release, as in past years, the IRS will begin accepting and processing individual tax returns once the filing season begins. For taxpayers who usually file early in the year and have all of the needed documentation, there is no need to wait to file. File when you're ready to submit a complete and accurate tax return.

The filing deadline to submit 2018 tax returns is Monday, April 15, 2019 for most taxpayers.
