Two Major Chain Stores Breaking with Retail Trend to Stay Open On Thanksgiving
For the past few years many big retail stores have shifted a lot of their big sales from Black Friday to the evening of Thanksgiving. This has led to earlier dinners and less quality time spent with family. After all, that is the whole idea of the Thanksgiving holiday, right? Two big name retailers are refusing to open their doors on November 26th with the hope that people will spend more time with their loved ones.
According to a USA Today article, Staples Office Supply Store will not be open on Thanksgiving. The company released the following statement regarding the holiday,
"We want our customers and associates to enjoy Thanksgiving their own way," said Demos Parneros, Staples president of North American stores and online, in a company statement.
Another retailer that will not have any sales on Thanksgiving Day is the video game giant, GameStop. Their website however will still make purchases available on Thanksgiving. Both stores still plan on being open Black Friday. After all that is the traditional time for the savings, the day AFTER Thanksgiving. Hopefully more stores will make the same decision as Staples and GameStop in an effort to help family values.
