Of the 10 best state parks in the U.S., two are right here in New York. Letchworth State Park, located 35 miles southwest of Rochester, is the best in America. Watkins Glen came in at #3 on the list from USAToday.com.

Letchworth State Park

Letchworth State Park, known as the "Grand Canyon of the East," is one of the most scenically magnificent areas in the eastern U.S. The Genesee River roars through the gorge over three major waterfall. It's surrounded by lush forests where hikers can choose among 66 miles of hiking trails. There is also horseback riding, biking, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and hot air ballooning. Watkins Glen State Park

Watkins Glen State Park is the 3rd best state park in the nation. It may only be two miles, but the glen's stream generates 19 waterfalls with trails that overlook the gorge. Visitors can enjoy the Olympic-size pool, scheduled summer tours through the gorge and excellent fishing in nearby Seneca Lake or Catherine Creek, which is renowned for its annual spring run of rainbow trout.
