Boy New York State has been taking a beating lately. Is there a bright side to all of this negative press?

Recently, Forbes published an article that ranked Utica, NY as the 3rd Worst place for business in 2015. Yesterday, the Empire State got hit with another jab when prntly.com printed an article titled: "Upstate NY Ranked Worst Place to Live in America." Here's a blurb from the write up:

Plagued by sky-high taxes, the coldest winters, the largest continuous loss of residents of any region in America, and the percentage of residents on some sort of government assistance or subsidy to survive, Upstate New York was ranked by a leading journal in Albany the worst place in America to live.

The article also mentions that New Yorker's are fleeing the state in search of greener pastures; or should I say warmer pastures?  In the last decade 1.6 million New Yorker's have left the state. Many of my friends and family are some of those who have left or will be leaving the area. My dad sold his home in Fort Plain 5 years ago and moved to Florida. My mother is moving to Florida for the winter months, and my best friend's immediate family just relocated down south. It seems at least 1 out of every 5 people I meet have plans to get out of New York.

Alright let's look at the bright side of living in New York: We get to see and experience 4 seasons. Granted, some of them are longer than others, but we get to experience them nonetheless. We also are surrounded by lots of natural beauty; The Adirondack and Catskill mountains are a wondrous site to behold. How about that New York food? Let's be honest, Upstate, and Central New York have some of the best cuisine  America has to offer. Oh, how could I forget the people? For the most part, New Yorker's are forthright, honest, kind, and decent. Do you agree?

What's keeping you here in New York?

This morning Just Jen and I talked about the bug eating contest at Mohawk Valley Community College.
