New York Governor Andrew Cuomo recently suggested that we contact our area representatives and ask them to vote in favor of bringing Uber to Upstate New York.  We are in one of the very few regions of the country without the ride-sharing service.

Now, the Upstate Transportation Association, which is backed up by taxi drivers, have put together a video called "Mugshots."  The commercial highlights some incidents where Uber drivers have committed criminal acts.  According to the Times Union, the ad will be used on Twitter, YouTube, Facebook and other social media, and possibly as a TV commercial.

The ad demands that lawmakers require Uber drivers undergo fingerprint background checks.  That is required in some areas, but Uber itself only does a background and driving record check before hiring a driver.

The taxi and limo industries have suffered since Uber became popular.  Uber response time is usually much shorter, the cars are nicer, and the rates average much lower than those of taxis.
